We are currently living in strange times, in what feels like the 100th week of lockdown. Whilst the negatives are a plenty, and every time I read the news, my heart sinks a little, both in the hardships that people are enduring and what feels like a hocus-pocus management of the situation. Despite this I have seen so many positives come forth and hope there are many more to come.
Finding connection in the virtual world
Through my teaching and connecting with friends and family, I have hardly ever felt more 'connected' than I do now. Having always worked in a 'physical' dynamic, whether that means teaching clients or just meeting them face to face, I wasn't sure how this transition to the virtual world would feel.
Yes there are challenges, including dodgy internet connections, bad camera angles and 'meeting' clients for the first time online, however I am astounded in clients determination and hard work to make this new format succeed.
Continuing to work with my 1-1 clients has been incredible and their hard work, and effort to 'show up' helps me to get out of bed in the morning. I have seen family groups joining my group classes, meaning they can workout together, whilst living oceans apart. Something that simply wouldn't have been possible before. And even some of my family members and friends have joined sessions for the first time, after so many years of inviting them they have finally made it to class!
Time
Whilst there are many negatives lockdown, the time I have gained has given me the space to rethink, and start some projects that I would never had the time to do beforehand. I looked back in my diary to this time last year, and there was barely a moment to breathe. Everyday was jam packed with work, appointments, socialising, even holidays included multiple locations and travel between them.
Pursuits have included... BAKING, CROCHET, READING, CRAFTS, WALKS around my neighbourhood that I never realised what so beautiful, were there always so many flowers? Talking of flowers... DRYING FLOWERS! Time to spend with my partner, with whom our normal routine was that of passing ships in the night. Time to CLEAN the house, I was horrified in the first week of lockdown when I looked in those hidden areas of under the bed and behind the sofa!
I know it has been very different for many and some have found themselves in a far more manic situation, but having a little time to myself has been marvellous for me and came at a good time considering I am.....
Growing a baby!
Yes, baby girl will be making an appearance sometime in the next 8 weeks. I believe a slower pace, as well as a focus on moving daily and has helped me feel pretty great throughout pregnancy so far. I've had a few niggles here and there and some serious cankles, but apart from that I feel blessed to have had a smooth ride so far (finger crossed it continues!). Watching us grow together, feeling the wriggles and somersaults and has been a magical experience and I can't wait to tell our little girl the stories of LOCKDOWN and how she came to be.
